Water Tower Builders
Last Monday we had a challenge to build a water tower. We could only use cardboard, string, ice cream sticks, cellotape and an ice cream container to hold the water. We had 25 minutes to build it then Mr A poured water into the ice cream container which needed to be at the top of the tower. We were looking at if the water tower was strong enough to stay up once the water was poured in and if the water stayed in the container. The water container needed to be at least half a meter above the ground. Once we did our experiment we discussed the shapes we used to build our towers and then why some water towers are built differently around the world.

Financial Literacy and Spreadsheeting
WALT use the language of financial literacy to decide on whether we can afford to have a class pet and how to show our data using a spreadsheet.
We have been learning about the language of financial literacy to gather a basic understanding of the terms used when working with finances. This includes words such as income, debt, expenses, needs and wants, consequences, trade off's, budgets etc.
We used the the scenario of having a pet in class, where we had to decide whether or not it would be feasible for our classes to have pet. As part of this we had to look at the setup costs of having a pet, based on needs and then the ongoing expenses of that pet.
We then were taught how to use a spreadsheet through our google classroom, adding data, turning that data into graphs so that we could see a quick comparison prior to making conclusions about which pet would be the best and why.

Blogging...
We are beginning to use our blogs for 2016. The year 8's task has been to help setup the year 7 blogs and then teach them how to add posts. Over the next few days we will be adding the first of our SSW to our blogs and adding the motivation pictures we have been using.
Water - Zero Waste Education
This morning Miss G has come into our senior rooms to teach us about water within our environment.
Today we were talking about the cycle of water and the language associated within. We looked at some specific language associated with the water cycle then had to name and label a diagram showing our understanding.

We have already been full steam ahead with our getting to know each other profiles, PAT testing, team building, learning about Mary MacKillop and how she influences us in our daily lives at school, learning how to navigate our way around our new digital classroom, learning how to participate in classroom discussion online and how to access and submit our independent work through the digital classroom.
Stay tuned for updates soon.

Syndicate Team Building
WALT work together as a team so that we can complete set challenges and tasks while learning to help each other along the way.
We worked in teams of three with one member to be blind folded and the other two members were giving instructions on how to get around an obstacle course without touching items along the way. What made it harder was not only did they have to go around things, they also had to go over and under items too, paired with the voices of 3 other groups giving and receiving instructions at the same time. Interesting results....and a lot of fun.
Golden Way....what it means to us...
This morning we got together as a syndicate (rooms 1 & 2) to talk about the Golden Way,. We looked at the Golden Rules, focusing on what they look like, sound like and feel like in our own class, within our syndicate and from outside our syndicate.
Here we are in action.
