Manderin Lessons

Today room 1 and 2 met our new Manderin teacher, Yixuan. We had welcomed her on Monday afternoon to our school. Today she shared with us about her family and then we got to share what we learnt last year and what we might like to learn this year.

She has a great sense of humour, we think this will be fun.

Gospel Value - Love

This weeks Gospel Value is Love. This value links to the Golden Way rule of 'We are kind and respectful'

Our task was to identify how we show love in our lives, discuss what empathy meant and how we show empathy towards others. We then linked this to a scripture reading or psalm about love and/or empathy.

We then displayed them around a heart that we used collage with red paper, wrote the psalm around it then put how we show this value in our lives today. Here is an example...

ERO Visit

We have had visitors to our school this week from ERO.

We had a Liturgy to welcome them to our school when they arrived. As part of this Regan from Room 3 welcomed them in in Maori and Maia translated in english. We sung a few songs, did a school prayer and had 5 children do Prayers of the Faithful, which centred around praying for our world leaders, school leaders, teachers and the ERO team.

A group of our boys performed the haka, which was amazing. Check back for the posting of this.

We had a bright, cheery, colourful classroom environment to share when they came in to watch us work.

Guardian Angels

One of our responsibilities this year is to be Guardian Angels. This is a programme that runs at lunchtime. Our job is to setup and supervise a range of activities that the other children in our school can join in. One of the all time favourites is scooters and sliders on the asphalt.

Each week there are ten of us on at a time, there are set activities so this term we have K'nex and Lego, Dress-ups and Chalk board, Scooters and Sliders, Sports Trolley and Leaders Activity.

Here are some photo's of our wonderful lunch time activities in action.

Bishop Steve Lowe

Just over a week ago a very special event happened in our Diocese. Bishop Stephen Lowe was ordained at the Cathedral in Hamilton. Here is a video made by Bishop Stephen Lowe that Stefan found on you tube.

We have been doing independent studies based on his life to find out more about him.

 Here is an example...

Busy week...

It has been a hugely busy week this week, with formalised testing in math, reading, and listening being done. We have written our first piece of writing which we will use to set goals for our next steps of learning.

We are started on a mini unit based around the ICC Cricket World Cup so that Miss Maguire can see what our research skills are like and how creative we are. We will be following the WCC and using this unit for statistics in math in the next couple of weeks.

We have also continued to build relationships with our peers in Room 2 and were invited to help then learn a new song that they will be supporting at Monday's Gospel Values assembly. We had a game of two ball soccer (which they one 3-2) and shared our Golden Time with them.

We went to Tech at the intermediate with Mrs Spring for the first time this term and by all accounts thoroughly enjoyed it. Miss M will post photo's Mrs Spring took next week. :)

Meet the many faces of Room 1

Thought we would share the many faces of Room 1. Today we took selfies (for a bit of fun) on Miss Maguire's phone that will be printed and put on our profiles.  Here we are....such a handsome bunch :)

Tarp Challenge

This morning we did a tarp challenge with Room 2. The object of the challenge was team work. We had two minutes to decide as a class what strategy we would use before attempting it. It was a race and we were being timed. Our time was 1.03mins. Room 1 were victors.

Here is a copy of the challenge.

Start of the year

Welcome to all the year 7's in Room 1 this year and welcome back to our year 8's. We have one new member in our class this year, Zephyr, who has come to join us from St Joseph's in Opotiki. Welcome aboard Zephyr.

This morning we have started with looking and sorting our new books etc and looking at our Golden Rules, seeing if we remember what they are and what they should look like, sound like and feel like in Room 1.
